Live performance contract

Live performance contract template for gigs and shows

The agreement between the promoter and the artist for a show: the fee and when it is paid, what the promoter provides and what happens if the show is cancelled. In English or Spanish, with the rider attached and signed online. Starting from a template uses no credits.

What the template includes

Event details

The event, venue, date, sound check and set time.

Fee and payments

The fee, with a deposit on signing and the balance before the artist goes on stage.

What the promoter provides

Travel, accommodation, sound, lighting, backline and catering, under the technical and hospitality rider attached as a schedule.

Permits and licences

Permits and public performance licences are on the promoter.

Recording and streaming

No recording or streaming of the show without the artist’s permission.

Promotion

The use of the artist’s name and image to promote the show.

Cancellation

What the artist is paid if the show is cancelled, depending on the notice given.

Force majeure

What happens if the show cannot go ahead, with rescheduling.

When to use it

  • A promoter, venue or festival books you and the deal is only in messages
  • You are a promoter or a venue hiring an artist or a band for an event
  • A manager is confirming several dates and wants the same terms for each one
  • The rider has to be part of the contract, not a separate e-mail

Before you sign: what to check

  • How much is paid on signing and when the balance is due
  • What the promoter pays for, written in the rider and not left for later
  • What the artist is paid if the show is cancelled, and with how much notice
  • Whether the show can be recorded or streamed, and by whom
  • Who handles the permits and public performance licences

Frequently asked questions

Is the live performance contract template free?

Yes. On the Free plan you can use every template as often as you want; starting from one uses no credits. The Free plan includes 2 documents to sign online each month, and Pro has unlimited signatures. See the plans.

What should a gig contract include?

At least the date, venue and set time, the fee with the deposit and the balance, what the promoter provides (in the rider), permits, the rules on recording, promotion, and what happens if the show is cancelled. The template includes all of them.

Can I use it to hire a band for an event?

Yes. The parties are the promoter (whoever hires) and the artist or band, so it works for a festival, a venue, a private event or a wedding. An agreement between the members of a band is a different one: the band agreement template.

The promoter sent me their contract. What do I do?

Upload it and review it before signing: TONTRIA Law marks the risky clauses, quotes the exact text and suggests what to change (about 10 credits).
